How to choose a Tavern conversation
Build and enter the Tavern, select a visitor and press Invite. Choose one available conversation for your goal; if you have no specific goal, Get to know is a useful first choice for learning about the guest and possibly revealing a gift hint. Most visitors allow one chat choice per drink, so Offer gift and Use skill are alternatives, not automatic next steps.

Choose a conversation
Build and enter the Tavern. In the official visitor screen, select a guest and use Invite to buy them a drink. The screenshot’s displayed cost and visitor are examples, not a universal price or guest list.

After Invite, choose one available conversation for your goal. Most visitors allow one choice per drink. Use the table below to pick a branch, then check what that guest actually offers.

Choose one Tavern conversation by your goal Goal Choose if offered What to check First meeting; learn about the visitor Get to know Personal details and possibly a gift hint; no guaranteed hint Look for a quest Offer help A chance of a request, not a guaranteed task Find an inspiration location Ask for rumours A possible location lead, not a guaranteed rumour Use a visitor ability Use skill Guest-specific option and actual result; +10 Efficiency is one example Give a fitting collected item Offer gift Only when available and a clue supports the gift; wrong gifts are spent Read the response or result for the single choice you made. If you learned a gift clue, save it until Offer gift is available and a fitting gift is already in your collection. In the October 2 visitor article, a rare second drink may allow another choice. Separately, Playtest 0.5.4 says a second drink invitation at a city tavern always succeeds and continues the conversation; do not apply that city rule to every earlier guest or build.
Conditional examples
Use the example that matches your chosen conversation. They are separate outcomes, not consecutive steps.
Gift clue: a guest who cooks at home
In the official Get to know example, the guest says they prefer cooking at home; the article suggests cooking utensils can suit that clue. The screenshot also shows Offer gift on this screen, but it does not prove every guest can immediately make a second choice. Offer a fitting collected gift only if that option is currently available; otherwise keep the gift. The example does not identify a complete recipe or item ID.

If a gift does not fit
The official wrong-gift example shows Gift made with 0 Favours. Do not spend another item merely because the gift control is present; use a visitor clue and a fitting gift in your collection.

A different choice: Use skill
Use skill is a rarer, guest-specific branch. This official example shows +10 Efficiency, which is not a universal boost for all visitors or an extra step after gifting.

Check the result
Check the response or result of the one conversation you selected. A quest, rumour, gift favour or stat effect depends on the visitor and the available option; no result is guaranteed. A gift clue is useful information even when you cannot offer a gift now.
If the result differs
If your intended option is absent, inspect another visitor or later opportunity. If a gift fails, re-read the person’s clues before spending another collected item. The pictured Gift and Skill cases are separate choices. To employ settlers through the Guild House instead, follow the dedicated hiring guide; the Tavern article does not establish Guild House wage amounts.
