Task guide

How to choose a pack animal

For a short, all-land trip on a tight budget, start with a donkey only if its current Capacity and Distance cover your load and route. If it cannot, compare an ox for more load and range, then horse offers for longer reach. Any cart or wagon plan rules out an animal marked wild; a water crossing rules out a donkey. Check the live offer before Buy.

Compare an offer

  1. Build a Stable first, then open the draft-animal market. In the official screen, the Carters’ Market tab shows offers and the selected animal’s details. This illustration is from October 12; its prices and numbers are historical, not fixed values.

The October 12 Wild Mule example reads Capacity 6 and Distance 46. Open full size to inspect the offer; your current offers may differ. View full size ↗
  2. Choose a first candidate by your actual route, load and budget. Donkeys are the cheapest type in the official article, but cannot cross water. Oxen are stronger and go farther than donkeys. Horses generally cost more; Jutland favours load and Andalusian favours distance. These are comparisons, not fixed stats or proof that oxen or horses can cross water.

  3. Select the candidate you chose and read its Capacity, Distance, current price and every trait before Buy. The October 12 Wild Mule picture is a dated offer, not a permanent price or stat roll; new offers appear with each payroll. If the chosen candidate fails one condition in the table, switch to another current offer rather than buying on the breed name alone.

Check the result

You have chosen one current offer whose displayed Capacity, Distance, price and traits fit the load, route and cart plan, and you know which failed condition would make you switch. The source does not show a verified after-purchase Fleet state.

If the result differs

If a cart or wagon is essential, reject an animal marked wild. If the route crosses water, do not choose a donkey; verify an alternative’s route capability in your own game rather than assuming the article proves it can cross. If the current offers are too small, too short-ranged or too costly, compare other offers or a later payroll.
